about Charlotte Black
Like most singers, Charlotte started singing from an early age, appearing in professional musical productions, including "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat". She was surrounded by musical instruments and played the clarinet, flute, piano and bassoon. She played in the East Riding Youth Orchestra and the Hull Philharmonic and started teaching at 16 years old.

She graduated in 1993 with a BA Hons in Creative Arts (Music) from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. In 1994, she moved to Tokyo, Japan and began singing and studying Jazz with Eriko Ohara. She stayed in Japan for 8 years where she sang professionally with her band, Azure, performing at venues such as The Spiral Hall, What the Dickens, The Celt and Cars. She also appeared on InterFM and Virgin Radio.

As well as performing during her time in Japan, she taught piano and voice to foreign residents of all ages and worked with professional singers and performers at Tokyo Disneyland, preparing them for auditions and shows.

She currently teaches at the King Alfred's School in Hampstead four days a week and at The West London School of Dance one day a week, where she runs a musical theatre workshop. She also teaches voice and piano privately in the London area.

Charlotte sings Jazz and fronts The Charlotte Black Quartet and has played regularly around the UK since she returned from Japan in 2003.
